RRSPs and RIFFs • give alternatives to cash gifts

You can designate the Schools Foundation as the beneficiary of your registered savings plan. This can be a meaningful alternative to a cash gift. If a registered charity such as NLSF is named as the beneficiary of your RRSP or RRIF, either directly or through your Will, the payout of the RRSP or RIFF proceeds to NLSF and is deemed to be a charitable gift by the deceased.

Benefits to you

  • NLSF will issue a charitable receipt in the name of the deceased for the full value of the RRSP or RRIF assets at death.
  • The tax credits will fully offset the tax liability to the deceased, plus there may be some tax savings on the balance of the estate.

The process is easy:  all you have to do is complete a simple form at the company holding your RRSP or RRIF, so no lawyer or notary is required.
